By the lake – a mysterious explosion: two men injured, a shipping container burned
Two men were injured and a shipping container was destroyed following a mysterious explosion near a lake in the Širvintos district of Lithuania.
On March 13, at approximately 6:20 PM, the Lithuanian police reported a mysterious explosion near a lake in Špokiskiai village within the Širvintos district. A burned and possibly exploded shipping container was discovered on the lakeshore, prompting immediate attention from local authorities. The situation raised concerns not only due to the explosion itself but also because of the damaged vehicle found close to the scene, a 2019 Lexus RX450H, which appeared to have suffered damages as a result of the incident.
Medical personnel attended to two men injured in the incident, born in 1951 and 1975, respectively. They were subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment. Initial reports indicated that the explosion might have been triggered by a heating device that ignited construction foam near the container; however, investigations regarding the exact cause and circumstances of the explosion are ongoing.
This incident highlights safety concerns regarding the handling of hazardous materials, especially in residential or accessible areas, and raises questions about the regulations governing the storage and usage of such materials. Authorities are likely to assess whether sufficient precautions were in place to prevent such incidents from occurring and ensure the safety of the surrounding community.
