Free show presents 'Mary Poppins', 'Limelight', and 'Django Unchained' in analog film

The Centro Cultural São Paulo is showcasing classic films in 16mm until March 22, celebrating aesthetic and narrative diversity in cinema.

The Centro Cultural São Paulo (CCSP) is hosting a free exhibition featuring classic films in 16mm format until March 22. This event aims to celebrate cinematic works that demonstrate aesthetic and narrative diversity, contributing to the understanding of 20th-century cinema. The exhibition includes famous musicals such as 'Mary Poppins' and notable films from legendary directors including Charles Chaplin's 'Limelight,' Alfred Hitchcock's 'Suspicion,' and 'The Body Snatcher' by Robert Wise.

A special highlight of the festival is a live soundtrack performance of 'A General,' a pioneering film in silent comedy, performed by pianist Tony Berchmans. The event reflects the pivotal role of analog technology, which has helped in circulating films beyond the mainstream commercial circuits and allowed cineclubs and film festivals to offer more accessible screenings to both producers and the public.

Tickets for the screenings can be obtained at the venue's physical box office one hour before each session, making it easy for attendees to enjoy a rich cinematic experience in a community-focused setting. This initiative not only showcases classic films but also encourages discussions around the evolving language of cinema throughout the decades.
