Three to die by hanging for killing Rivers pharmacist

A court in Rivers State has sentenced three individuals to death by hanging for the murder of a local pharmacist linked to cult activities.

A Rivers State High Court has sentenced Confidence Kirinee, Precious Mona, and Soniabari Sagha to death by hanging for the murder of pharmacist Muenalo Sunday. The charged crimes included conspiracy, cultism, kidnapping, and murder, with the court establishing that the prosecution presented compelling evidence against the convicts.

The case revolves around events on March 5, 2019, in the Khana Local Government Area, where the convicts, members of the 'Iceland' secret cult, conspired to kidnap and murder the victim. In addition to the death sentences, another suspect, Loveday Legah, was sentenced to life imprisonment due to his involvement in cult activities leading to the murder.

Justice Augusta Chukwu highlighted the prosecution's success in proving that the convicts were guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, emphasizing the court's role in addressing the impact of cultism and violence in local communities. This ruling underscores the judicial system's commitment to tackling the challenges posed by cult-related crimes in Nigeria, reflecting broader societal concerns about security and public safety in the region.
