Manhunt for Louisiana man wanted in deadly crash who may have fled state or country continues into 6th month
A manhunt for a Louisiana man accused of vehicular manslaughter has entered its sixth month as authorities believe he may have fled the state or the country.
The search for Manmeet Singh, a Louisiana man indicted for vehicular manslaughter, has now extended into its sixth month. Singh, 30, is facing serious charges after an incident in September where he allegedly drove under the influence and collided head-on with Patricia Saidu, a 21-year-old recent college graduate. The crash occurred on a freeway in St. John the Baptist Parish, resulting in Saidu’s death as she was trapped in her vehicle which caught fire upon impact.
Authorities have issued a felony warrant for Singh, charging him with vehicular homicide, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and driving in the wrong direction. In response to the tragedy, Crime Stoppers of Greater New Orleans reported that Singh was last known to reside in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, and had been working as a ride share driver in New Orleans. His evasion has prompted both local and federal law enforcement agencies, including the Louisiana State Police, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the U.S. Marshals Service, to join forces in the search for him.
The implications of Singh's actions and subsequent manhunt extend beyond the immediate tragedy, raising concerns about impaired driving and the legal consequences faced by individuals who flee from justice. This situation highlights an ongoing challenge in ensuring accountability in cases of vehicular homicide and the complexities involved in tracking down suspects who may attempt to escape legal ramifications by crossing borders, either state or international.
