BEFORE AND AFTER: Rescued jaguar with collar in RR is transferred to sanctuary in GO
A rescued jaguar from Roraima has been successfully transferred to a sanctuary in Goiás after 14 months of rehabilitation.
A jaguar rescued in January 2025 in Caroebe, Roraima, was transferred to a feline sanctuary in Corumbá de Goiás on Thursday, 12th. The jaguar was found with a dog collar and signs of malnutrition and has since undergone a significant rehabilitation process for 14 months. Now weighing 40 kg, the female jaguar is nearing the final stage of preparation to return to its natural habitat.
After being rescued, the jaguar initially received care at the Wild Animal Recovery Center (Cetas) managed by the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) in Boa Vista. Subsequently, in April of the previous year, the jaguar was moved to Cetas in Brasília, which is better equipped for larger felines. The Ibama has reported that the jaguar has displayed wild behavior and tends to avoid human contact, which increases the likelihood of a successful release into the wild.
