Agreement to purchase 2.8 million tons of corn in Sinaloa for the 2025-2026 cycle

A historic agreement guarantees the purchase of 2.8 million tons of corn for the 2025-2026 harvest in Sinaloa, ensuring commercial security for local producers.

In a groundbreaking and historic meeting that included producers, marketers, and authorities, an agreement was reached to secure the purchase of 2 million 856 thousand tons of corn for the autumn-winter harvest of 2025-2026, expected to occur in two months. This agreement was driven by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Sinaloa Governor Rubén Rocha Moya, aiming to proactively address corn marketing and provide certainty for Sinaloan producers. The formalization of this agreement took place in the Governor's Salon at the Government Palace, where Governor Rocha, alongside two representatives appointed by President Sheinbaum—her private secretary Carlos Augusto Morales López and the Undersecretary of Agriculture and Rural Development, Leonel Cota Montaño—met with industry stakeholders and marketers. These representatives signed a formal written commitment indicating their future purchasing obligations, covering more than 70 percent of the total corn production. This agreement reflects a significant step for agricultural security in the region, ensuring that producers will have a reliable market for their corn in the face of potential volatility in prices and demand. It underscores the government's commitment to support local agriculture and can serve as a model for similar initiatives in other parts of the country.
