Investigation points to husband killing cafeteria worker after scheduling a fake meeting via messaging app

A police investigation has led to the indictment of a husband for the murder of his wife, a cafeteria worker, after a fake meeting was arranged through a messaging app.

The Civil Police have indicted 59-year-old Raimundo Gomes da Silva for the feminicide of his wife, Rozália Gonçalves Pereira, who was 36 years old. The inquiry's findings were made public on January 13, revealing that the murder took place after the suspect was unable to accept the end of their relationship. He allegedly invited Rozália to a fake meeting using a messaging app, which ultimately led to her fatal stabbing on New Year’s Day. Her body was discovered on January 5, decomposed in an abandoned lot in the same neighborhood where the couple lived.

Rozália Gonçalves Pereira worked as a cafeteria worker at a local municipal school from February 2024 to November 2025, showcasing her integration in the community prior to her tragic death. The investigation indicated that jealousy was a significant factor in this homicide, as confirmed by the lead investigator, Adriano Carvalho. The case highlights the ongoing issues of domestic violence and feminicide in Brazil, drawing attention to the need for stricter measures to prevent such crimes and offer better support to those affected.

This incident underscores a disturbing trend in Brazil, where violence against women remains a critical and urgent issue. With the increasing number of femicides reported, the legal system and community support mechanisms must be improved to protect vulnerable individuals. The case of Rozália serves not only as a grim reminder of personal tragedies but also as a call to action for societal change to address the underlying causes of domestic violence and ensure justice for victims.
