Man suspected of robbing a financial institution arrested in operation in São Luís
A man suspected of being involved in a bank heist in São Luís was arrested during a police operation.
On November 13, 2025, a suspect in the robbery of a financial institution in the Cohab neighborhood of São Luís was apprehended by the Maranhão Civil Police. The initial robbery, which occurred on November 11, involved armed assailants who took control of the institution, holding employees and customers hostage while making off with a significant amount of cash and other valuables. This incident alarmed the community and raised concerns over public safety in the area.
The Department for the Combat of Robberies to Financial Institutions (DCRIF) of the State Criminal Investigations Superintendent (SEIC) reported that the arrested individual is believed to be a key member of the criminal group responsible for the robbery. In addition to his involvement in this heist, authorities indicated that the suspect has a criminal history with multiple charges, including three murders that have been documented in São Luís.
