Project offers free workshops on bio-jewelry and exhibition for women in Rurópolis
A project in Rurópolis, Brazil, is providing free bio-jewelry workshops for local women to learn about crafting and marketing their products.
This weekend, Rurópolis, located in the southwest of Pará, Brazil, is hosting a stage of the project ‘Tradition and Innovation – Bio-jewels of the Amazon’, which offers free workshops aimed at teaching women the production of bio-jewelry. This initiative started on Friday and will run until Saturday, with 24 participants eager to learn artisanal techniques using seeds and other resources from the Amazon’s biodiversity.
Over the two days of training, participants will delve into various topics including the processing of seeds, designing, and assembling pieces such as necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. The main goal of the initiative is to highlight traditional knowledge while promoting new opportunities within the creative economy and the socio-bioeconomy of the Amazon. This aligns with broader efforts to empower women economically and socially through skill development and leverage local resources.
In addition to the hands-on crafting sessions, the project also offers guidance on how to promote and sell these bio-jewelry products on social media platforms, thereby expanding the market reach for these handmade items. This aspect not only provides the participants with necessary business acumen but also encourages the integration of traditional crafts into the contemporary market, fostering sustainability and cultural appreciation in the process.
