Liepāja's hockey team wins in the OHL playoffs opener
Liepāja's hockey team secured a 4-1 victory over Tallinn's 'Panter' in the opening playoff game of the Optibet hockey league.
In the first game of the Optibet Hockey League (OHL) playoffs, Liepāja's hockey team achieved a strong 4-1 victory against Tallinn's 'Panter'. This win marks the beginning of their playoff journey with an early lead in the best-of-five series, bringing the score to 1-0 in their favor. The match saw Dominīks Sadausks scoring during a power play early in the fourth minute, followed by another goal from Roberts Friedenfelds just four minutes later, putting Liepāja ahead 2-0.
As the game progressed, Rinalds Vutkevičs extended Liepāja’s lead to 3-0 in the second minute of the third period. Although Riko Velja of 'Panter' managed to score shortly after, sealing the game was Dāniels Anderson with a goal into the empty net just before the game concluded. Goalkeeper Mihaels Valenta showcased excellent performance by blocking 24 out of 25 shots faced, while Alberts Emīls Šnepste provided crucial assists in two of the goals scored by the team.
Looking ahead, the second game of the series is scheduled for Sunday in Tallinn, with a potential third game to follow next Tuesday in Liepāja. If the series extends beyond three games, there will be further matches on Thursday in Tallinn and next Saturday in Liepāja. Historically this season, the two teams have met five times, with Liepāja winning every match, indicating a strong competitive edge as they advance through the playoffs.
