New Disruption at S-Bank

S-Bank experienced a new disruption in its mobile application and website access on Friday evening, following an earlier incident the same day.

On Friday evening, S-Bank faced a new technical disruption that impacted users' ability to log into its mobile banking app, with additional issues accessing the bank's website. The problems began around 7 PM, as reported by users through the service Downdetector, which logged nearly 300 complaints within 25 minutes of the onset. Earlier in the day, a similar incident had occurred starting around 3:30 PM, which lasted for over two hours and amassed close to 1000 error reports at its peak.

Communication manager Piia Bertenyi confirmed that the first disruption was due to a denial-of-service attack targeting the bank's systems, and the services had only been functioning normally for about an hour before the new issue arose. This sequence of events underscores ongoing challenges faced by financial institutions regarding cyber security and system reliability. Given the prevalence of such attacks, it raises questions about the readiness of banking systems to handle potential threats and safeguard customer access.

The impact of these disruptions can be significant, leading to customer frustration and a potential loss of trust in the bank's ability to manage sensitive financial transactions. Users rely heavily on digital banking services, especially in an era where online accessibility and convenience are paramount, making it critical for banks like S-Bank to address these issues promptly.
