Seven special flights to the Middle East cost the state 800,000 euros

The Estonian government spent approximately 800,000 euros on seven special flights to repatriate citizens and their family members from the United Arab Emirates.

The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized seven special flights to help bring home Estonian citizens and their families from the United Arab Emirates, costing the state about 800,000 euros. The total expenses for these flights amounted to approximately 1.476 million euros, with the remaining costs covered by personal contributions and the European Union's civil protection mechanism, since some flights also transported additional EU citizens.

The decision to conduct these repatriation flights was made last Monday, when the Ministry initially planned five flights with a projected budget of around one million euros. Over 1,000 individuals were transported from the region, including 855 Estonians and their relatives, as well as other EU citizens who were stranded in the area.

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna highlighted that there are still a few citizens remaining in the region who are in need of assistance. The successful execution of these flights reflects the government's commitment to supporting its citizens abroad during emergencies, while also adhering to financial measures to manage the costs effectively.
