Brothers arrested on suspicion of committing robberies with electric scooters in Salvador
Two brothers were arrested in Salvador for allegedly using electric scooters to commit robbery.
Two brothers, aged 19 and 20, were arrested on Thursday night in Salvador, Brazil, on suspicion of using electric scooters to carry out a series of robberies. The police reported that the duo employed the same modus operandi, typically committing their crimes at night in tourist-heavy neighborhoods such as Barra and Ondina. Their arrest follows complaints from victims, including tourists, who reported being approached and robbed while the brothers rode by on scooters.
The investigation into the suspects began in October of the previous year after an Argentine tourist reported a robbery near a luxury hotel in the Ondina neighborhood. She stated that the assailants had approached her on an electric scooter, confronted her, and stole her cellphone. Another victim, a tourist from São Paulo, also filed a report after a similar encounter in the same area, highlighting a pattern of criminal behavior by the suspects.
As the investigation progressed, law enforcement discovered that the brothers had outstanding arrest warrants issued by the Boca do Rio Police Department. Their pattern of targeting tourists in well-trafficked areas raises concerns about public safety and emphasizes the need for increased measures to protect visitors in cities like Salvador, known for its vibrant tourism industry.
