Latvia wins two medals at the World Junior Skeleton Championship
Latvian skeleton athletes Kamila Krustiņa and Renārs Jumiķis won silver medals in the pairs relay at the World Junior Championships in Germany, while Dāvis Valdovskis also secured a silver in individual events.
At the World Junior Skeleton Championships held in Altenberg, Germany, Latvian athletes delivered an impressive performance, earning two silver medals. Kamila Krustiņa and Renārs Jumiķis secured silver in the pairs relay, finishing just one second behind the German duo of Marija Angerere and Martins Buhaims who claimed the title with a total time of 2 minutes and 4.75 seconds. In a competitive field, the Latvians showcased strong individual times, with Jumiķis achieving the fastest time among the pairs, and Krustiņa following closely with the seventh-best performance overall.
In individual events, Dāvis Valdovskis demonstrated exceptional skill, earning a silver medal as well. He finished the competition with the second-best time in both the U-23 and U-20 categories. After the first run, he was positioned in second place; however, despite recording the fastest time in the second run, he ultimately fell short by 0.18 seconds to Ukraine's Jaroslav Lavreniuk, who took the gold. Valdovskis was noted for his ability to compete at a high level against international opposition, further establishing Latvia's presence in the sport of skeleton.
