Volfa and Bleidele climb onto the podium at the World Junior Championships

Latvian athletes Estere Volfa and Elza Bleidele won silver and bronze medals at the World Junior Biathlon Championships in Germany.

At the World Junior Biathlon Championships held in Arber, Germany, Latvian athletes Estere Volfa and Elza Bleidele achieved remarkable success in the nine-kilometer mass start event. Volfa secured the silver medal, while Bleidele took home the bronze, demonstrating their exceptional talent on the international stage. The event was won by Ukrainian athlete Olga Merkušina, who managed to complete the race despite three shooting errors within a time of 29 minutes and 17.1 seconds.

Both Volfa and Bleidele faced challenging conditions as they each had to complete four penalty laps. Volfa finished just 19.9 seconds behind Merkušina, while Bleidele trailed by 36.9 seconds. This competition was part of a larger championship, with Volfa also having previously earned a gold medal in the 7.5-kilometer sprint and another in the mixed relay, further establishing her as a standout competitor in the tournament.

The World Youth and Junior Championships, taking place from Friday until Sunday, have attracted young talents from around the globe.
