Two thieves and robbers arrested in Daugavpils

Authorities in Daugavpils, Latvia, have arrested two men for theft and robbery following an incident in February where one victim was assaulted and his belongings stolen.

In early March, Latvian police arrested two men in connection with thefts and a robbery that took place in Daugavpils. The incident, reported by the State Police (VP), occurred on February 12 when an unidentified assailant attacked a 1984-born man, inflicting bodily harm and stealing items, including his apartment keys. Following the robbery, the assailant used the stolen keys to enter the victim's apartment and stole a Xiaomi television and a laptop, resulting in total material losses amounting to 729 euros.

After conducting a thorough investigation, law enforcement officials identified a suspect linked to the criminal acts. On March 2, officers from the VP's South Latgale division arrested a 1979-born man. During the apprehension, police were also able to recover the stolen items. The investigation highlighted the effectiveness of police work in responding to violent crimes and theft, ensuring that suspects are brought to justice.

Legal proceedings have been initiated against the suspect under Article 176, Section 1 of the Criminal Law for robbery, and also under Article 175, Section 3 for theft committed by entering a vehicle, apartment, or other premises. The arrests underscore the ongoing efforts by police in Latvia to combat crime, maintain public safety, and protect residents from similar incidents in the future.
