Transport Administration to hand over the last Nordica plane to buyer soon

The Transport Administration in Estonia is set to hand over the last Nordica aircraft to its buyer after having sold all of its planes.

The Estonian Transport Administration, which had been renting planes to Nordica, has sold all aircraft and expects to transfer the last one to the buyer in the coming weeks. This marks the end of an era for the airline, which faced bankruptcy. The agency owned a total of seven Bombardier CRJ900NG aircraft, which were leased to Nordicaโ€™s subsidiary, Regional Jet. Following Nordica's bankruptcy, the agency began seeking buyers for the aircraft and established a sale agreement last June with U.S. aviation company Regional One.

As of now, six of the planes have already been transferred to Regional One, with the final aircraft's handover anticipated shortly. Additionally, the Transport Administration has succeeded in selling off parts and engines from the planes as well, generating approximately five million dollars in revenue from these sales. This signifies a significant financial maneuver for the agency, although the government has not yet decided on the allocation of the millions of euros remaining in its accounts following the aircraft sales.

The developments surrounding Nordica and the Transport Administration raise important questions regarding the future of aviation in Estonia, especially in light of the current financial landscape. The sale of the Nordica-owned planes could impact regional connectivity and the availability of air travel services within Estonia, as the market adapts to the loss of Nordica and its associated carriers. Furthermore, the decision about the funds from the aircraft sales will likely influence future transportation policies and investments within the country.
