Survey shows the most dangerous stretches on federal highways in Paraná; see list

A survey has identified the five most dangerous sections of federal highways in Paraná, Brazil, amid rising accident and fatality rates.

A recent survey conducted by the National Confederation of Transport (CNT) has highlighted the five most dangerous segments of federal highways in Paraná for the months of January and February 2026. During this period, the state recorded 1,190 accidents resulting in over 100 fatalities, representing a nearly 15% increase compared to the same months in 2025, which saw 1,155 accidents and 88 deaths. The rise in fatalities is even more concerning when compared to the first two months of 2024, which had 83 fatalities, amounting to an increase of almost 22% year-over-year.

The report points to specific stretches of federal highways with high accident and mortality rates, notably the BR-277 highway, which connects Curitiba to the coast of Paraná. Federal highway police officer Maciel Júnior commented on the nature of these accidents, noting that they often occur on straight, dry roads with natural lighting. This highlights a troubling trend where driver inattention and delayed reactions are significant contributing factors, suggesting that the onus is on motorists to remain vigilant and attentive while driving.

With these alarming statistics, local authorities and transport organizations are likely to push for increased safety measures and public awareness campaigns aimed at reducing accidents and saving lives on these hazardous routes. The information revealed in this survey serves as a crucial wake-up call for both drivers and policymakers in Paraná as they strive to improve road safety standards and implement effective traffic regulations.
