The Lithuanian rowing community is mourning the loss of Algimantas Mačiulis, a revered coach and former rower, who has died, as announced by the Lithuanian Rowing Federation. Throughout his illustrious career, Mačiulis played a pivotal role in nurturing numerous talents in Lithuanian rowing, including notable athletes like Kristina Poplavskaja and Birutė Šakickienė, who won bronze medals at the 2000 Sydney Olympics under his guidance. His contributions to sports in Lithuania were recognized in 2001 when he was awarded the Olympic Star by the Lithuanian National Olympic Committee for his dedication and accomplishments.
