PHOTO NEWS: Romet Jürgenson’s car breaks down again in Kenya, the stage is halted
Estonian rally driver Romet Jürgenson experienced another misfortune in Kenya as his Ford Fiesta Rally2 broke down during the fourth stage of the rally, leading to a halt in the competition.
During the Kenyan rally on Friday, Estonian driver Romet Jürgenson faced yet another unfortunate incident when his Ford Fiesta Rally2 came to a stop during the fourth stage, blocking a narrow section of the road and causing the stage to be halted. Jürgenson, along with his co-driver Siim Oja, did not crash into anything; rather, the car simply failed to continue. Fortunately, both drivers were unharmed, but the exact cause of the breakdown remains unknown.
Following Jürgenson’s incident, the competition was affected as no further drivers were able to start. However, two WRC2 competitors managed to pass Jürgenson, but they were assigned nominal times for their attempts. After the car was cleared from the road, the stage was resumed, allowing the competition to continue. This breakdown added to Jürgenson’s troubles for the day, as he had already been forced to retire during the second stage, placing him far behind in the overall WRC2 standings.
Currently, it remains uncertain whether Jürgenson will be able to resume his participation in the rally on Saturday. In contrast, Robert Virves, competing in the WRC2 category with a Škoda, is currently in third place after four stages, trailing the leader Gus Greensmith by 8.6 seconds, while overall leader Oliver Solberg maintains a lead of 33.3 seconds ahead of Elfyn Evans.
