Now milk sellers will also need a license, no one can sell without registration

The FSSAI has made licenses mandatory for milk production and sale to curb adulteration in dairy products.

In a significant move to combat the rising adulteration in milk and dairy products, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has mandated licenses for all milk producers and sellers, except for members of dairy cooperatives. This decision comes in response to numerous complaints regarding adulteration, prompting the FSSAI to take a stricter approach. All milk vendors and producers must now register with the FSSAI to operate legally in the market.

The advisory issued by the FSSAI outlines that non-cooperative dairy producers and sellers must obtain the necessary registration or licenses to conduct their food business, thereby ensuring compliance with food safety regulations. Many independent milk producers and sellers have been operating without the required licenses, and this move aims to bring them under regulatory oversight. Regular inspections of milk chillers used by producers and sellers will also be conducted to ensure compliance with storage temperature requirements and other essential conditions related to dairy management.

This policy not only aims to safeguard public health by ensuring the safety and quality of milk but also to enhance the accountability of vendors in the dairy industry. By implementing this measure, the FSSAI hopes to reduce the instances of adulteration and enhance consumer trust in dairy products throughout India, making it a significant step forward for food safety standards in the country.
