Ukraine Has a New Victory Plan. Part of It Is Already Being Fulfilled

Ukraine is implementing a new strategy under Minister of Defense to create conditions for Russia to negotiate, moving away from the goal of total defeat of Russian forces.

In the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky has introduced several 'victory plans' aimed at guiding the country's efforts to defeat the occupiers. Although Kyiv has not yet achieved its ultimate goal of fully defeating Russian forces, it has successfully slowed the advance of Russian troops. With a new Minister of Defense appointed at the beginning of the year, Ukraine's strategy has shifted focus from an absolute military victory to creating a situation that compels Moscow to engage in serious peace negotiations.

The updated plan emphasizes strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities to force the enemy into a desire for peace. This includes bolstering the air defense system, halting Russian advances, and increasing economic pressure on Moscow. President Zelensky has tasked the Ministry of Defense with recalibrating strategies based on previous inadequate results, explaining that adjustments are essential for continued progress. The aim is not just military success, but a practical approach that opens the door to potential diplomatic resolutions.

This shift in strategy highlights a significant change in the Ukrainian approach towards the conflict, as it acknowledges the complexities of achieving total military victory while also recognizing the need for a diplomatic solution. Experts suggest that this could lead to more effective negotiations, particularly with the backing of the United States, which has been criticized for not applying sufficient pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin. Overall, the effectiveness of this new plan will depend on further developments on the battlefield and Ukraine's ability to adapt to an ever-changing geopolitical landscape.
