Ukraine's Strategy Aims to Raise the Cost of War for Russia to Achieve Peace
Ukraine plans to increase the cost of the war for Russia in order to achieve peace, focusing on enhancing air defense, halting Russian attacks, and cutting off economic resources fueling its war efforts.
The Ukrainian Minister has outlined a strategy that seeks to elevate the costs of war for Russia, which continues to believe in its ability to win through military strength and resources. This strategy is built around three key objectives: ensuring sky security, stopping Russian assaults across various domains, and targeting the economic resources that sustain Russia's military operations.
The first objective emphasizes the need to detect all aerial threats in real-time and intercept at least 95% of missiles and drones through a multi-layered air defense system. The second objective aims to thwart Russian operations on land, at sea, and in cyberspace, reflecting a comprehensive defensive approach. Lastly, the third objective focuses on undermining the Russian war economy by specifically addressing revenue from oil, which is transported using what is termed a 'shadow fleet' and continues to fund missile production, military contracts, and propaganda efforts.
Minister Fedorov highlighted that the success of these goals hinges on expanding international partnerships, achieving technological superiority, and systematically utilizing battlefield data. While many specifics on how to implement these strategies remain undisclosed, the overarching goal is to make the ongoing military engagements unsustainable for Russia, thereby paving the way for potential peace negotiations.
