Praia Grande grants almost 600 authorizations to street vendors; see the selling rules
The city of Praia Grande has issued nearly 600 authorizations to street vendors under a program aimed at regulating informal work and boosting the local economy.
The city of Praia Grande, located on the coast of SΓ£o Paulo, Brazil, has implemented the Special Authorization Program, issuing 579 permits to street vendors. This initiative is part of a broader effort to formalize informal work, help local entrepreneurs generate income, and foster economic growth in the area. The permits are specifically aimed at benefiting vendors operating both on the beachfront and along public streets.
Out of the total number of authorizations granted, 400 are designated for vendors working directly on the sandy beaches, while 179 are for those set up on public roads within the municipality. The selection process for these vendors was thorough, involving document analysis and a scoring system managed by the cityβs Finance Secretariat, ensuring that only qualified individuals received permits to operate.
Municipal authorities have emphasized that these newly authorized vendors will be monitored to ensure adherence to established regulations and to maintain high service quality for both residents and tourists. This proactive approach aims to integrate street vendors into the local economic framework, providing them with a legitimate avenue to earn a living while enhancing the vibrancy of Praia Grande's public spaces.
