Technical report requests demolition of part of the building that caught fire after gas explosion in Salvador
A technical report has indicated the need for partial demolition of a building in Salvador that was affected by a gas explosion, particularly recommending the demolition of specific floors.
A recent technical report has confirmed the necessity to demolish a part of a building in the Stiep neighborhood of Salvador following a significant fire caused by a gas explosion. The report adds to the findings of an initial inspection conducted by the Salvador Civil Defense (Codesal) immediately after the incident, which described the damage inflicted upon the structure. Notably, a new level of the building has now been included in the areas marked for demolition, expanding the scope of the work needed to ensure safety.
The Codesal has announced that the upcoming demolition will target the left wing of the building and involve the destruction of apartments on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors. While some areas of the structure may be retained, they will require significant recovery efforts to ensure their stability and safety, thereby allowing residents to eventually return. The recommendations highlight the urgency of addressing structural vulnerabilities created by the explosion and subsequent fire.
For the remaining apartments that will not be demolished, the technical report advises a series of repair measures, which include surface treatments, painting, and a thorough inspection of electrical and plumbing systems. These actions are necessary to ensure that the living conditions remain safe and that the building can withstand future risks. As the situation unfolds, the focus remains on ensuring the safety of residents and mitigating any further risks stemming from the previous incident.
