Large-scale fire hits residential building in Salvador
A significant fire in a residential building in Salvador left 16 people needing medical attention, including four firefighters, due to a gas leak.
On Friday morning, a major fire broke out in a residential building located in the Stiep neighborhood of Salvador, Brazil, prompting an urgent response from the local fire department. The incident, attributed to a gas leak from the kitchen, led to the partial collapse of the building, intensifying the crisis for those involved. Medical teams provided assistance to 16 individuals, among whom were residents of the building and firefighters vulnerable to the hazards of the situation.
Emergency responders quickly mobilized, with over 50 military firefighters and 17 vehicles on the scene. Four of the individuals treated were firefighters who suffered injuries due to falling debris while attending to the fire. While four victims received care at the scene and were released shortly after, the other 12 were transported to various healthcare units by ambulances from the Fire Battalion and the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu).
As rescue operations continued, teams worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of residents trapped inside the building. The situation remained fluid, with firefighters focused on extinguishing the flames, ensuring there were no additional casualties, and conducting thorough searches. This incident not only raised concerns over building safety regulations but will likely lead to further discussions on gas safety and emergency preparedness in residential areas.
