The city of Fortaleza has kicked off a significant upgrade to its public transportation system with the introduction of the first five out of 120 new buses. These modern vehicles are designed to enhance the commuting experience for residents, featuring air conditioning, elevators for persons with disabilities, USB charging ports for electronic devices, and internal security cameras. This initiative is part of a broader plan to make public transport more accessible and comfortable for all citizens.
The new buses are not only user-friendly, but they also contribute to environmental sustainability. The fleet utilizes technology that reduces particulate emissions by up to 97% and cuts other pollutants like carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides by nearly 90%. Mayor Evandro Leitão announced that additional units will soon join the fleet, with a goal of having 120 buses operational by the end of 2026. Currently, 80% of the city’s bus fleet is climate-controlled, and the mayor aims to achieve full climate control soon.
