Police recover stolen items from the Itaperuna Department of the Environment
Police in Itaperuna have successfully recovered several stolen items from the Municipal Department of the Environment shortly after the theft was discovered.
In a significant recovery operation, both civil and military police in Itaperuna managed to retrieve a large part of the items that were stolen from the Municipal Department of the Environment. These items were taken from the department's headquarters, which is still in the final stages of preparation before officially opening. The secretary of the department, Arsênio Jubim, informed that the space is being organized to serve as the conservation unit's office that will support administrative activities and educational initiatives aimed at environmental preservation.
The theft was discovered during a routine maintenance check last Saturday, when staff found a broken window and an open door at the facility. The local Public Security Department promptly informed the Civil and Military Police for assistance. In a coordinated response, police reported that the suspects fled upon noticing the presence of law enforcement. Following intelligence operations and regional searches, the officers succeeded in locating the stolen materials, which included five air conditioning units and two sinks.
This incident highlights ongoing challenges regarding security in public spaces, especially when new facilities are established. The swift recovery of stolen property not only underscores the effectiveness of the police response but also emphasizes the importance of securing municipal assets as they prepare for public use. The incident serves as a reminder to remain vigilant in protecting public infrastructure and the resources allocated for environmental stewardship, particularly in developing regions like Noroeste Fluminense.
