Here, Britt, 93, gets a new look – retirees receive a full day from Luleå's students
Britt Eriksson, a 93-year-old resident, enjoyed a revitalizing day of hair styling and bingo with students from Luleå gymnasieskola as part of a program designed to connect generations.
Britt Eriksson, a 93-year-old resident of Solbackens elderly home, spent a delightful day at Luleå gymnasieskola, receiving a new hairstyle from student Isa Vikström during a community engagement event. The day included a three-course lunch and bingo, providing not only fun but a valuable intergenerational experience. Britt humorously claimed to have transformed into 'Gunvor' after her makeover, showcasing her vibrant personality and enthusiasm for the occasion.
The initiative, led by Urban Nordh, the principal of Luleå gymnasieskola, aimed to build bridges between generations by allowing students from various programs to apply their skills in real-life situations. It initially began with students from the Restaurant and Food Program and the Care and Health Program, but the Hairdressing Program quickly joined in as well. This collaboration emphasizes the school's commitment to community service and the importance of fostering relationships between the elderly and youth.
For Britt, the experience was refreshing and uplifting, as she expressed her desire to return for another appointment with Isa, her new stylist. This sentiment reflects the positive impact such programs can have on the mental and emotional well-being of the elderly, reinforcing the significance of these intergenerational activities in enhancing community connections and promoting understanding between younger and older generations.
