Double warnings from SMHI – snowfall and grass fire

SMHI has issued warnings for both grass fires and heavy winds combined with snowfall in various parts of Sweden.

The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) has issued dual warnings regarding significant weather concerns in Sweden. On one hand, there is a high risk for grass fires in the southern and eastern parts of Götaland, except Gotland, as well as in eastern Svealand and the snow-free areas of southern Gävleborg County. The previously dried grass poses a severe fire risk, and activities such as garden burning or sparks from machinery can ignite fires. This elevated risk is forecasted to last from 9 AM to 3 PM on Friday, before rain is expected to arrive and mitigate the conditions.

In addition to the risk of grass fires, SMHI has also issued a yellow warning for strong or very strong winds combined with snowfall in southern Jämtland. This weather phenomenon can create hazardous conditions, especially for travel, and increase the likelihood of accidents, further stressing the importance of caution among residents in these areas. The combination of snowfall and strong winds may lead to reduced visibility and dangerous road conditions, necessitating preparedness from the public.

SMHI's alerts highlight the unpredictable nature of spring weather in Sweden, where warm conditions can quickly give way to adverse weather events. As the weather begins to shift, citizens are advised to stay informed and follow safety guidelines to protect themselves and prevent possible incidents related to both the fire hazards and inclement weather conditions.
