Exhibition 'World of Wild Animals' Opens in Nova Friburgo Shopping Mall

An exhibition showcasing the wildlife of the Atlantic Forest opened in Nova Friburgo, Brazil, featuring over 40 taxidermied animals, and will be available to the public until April 3.

The exhibition titled "O Mundo dos Animais Silvestres" has been inaugurated at Cadima Shopping in Nova Friburgo, situated in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This display, which focuses on the diverse fauna of the Atlantic Forest, is accessible for free to the public until April 3. The exhibition is organized by the non-governmental organization SOS Vida Silvestre in collaboration with the Rota 116 concessionaire and with the support of Cadima Shopping. It features more than 40 taxidermied animals that have been carefully preserved to maintain their original physical characteristics.

Among the various species on display are coatis, pumas, otters, and lesser anteaters. These animals have been taxidermized after experiencing various accidents, with many occurring along the RJ-116 highway. The collection is part of the assets held by the museum operated by SOS Vida Silvestre, which is located in Cachoeiras de Macacu. The exhibition aims to educate visitors about the Atlantic Forest's wildlife and raise awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation in the region.

Biodiversity in the Atlantic Forest is critical, yet it faces numerous threats including habitat destruction and road accidents. According to biologist Francis Leandro from SOS Vida Silvestre, this exhibition serves not only to showcase the animals but also to promote greater public understanding of the issues affecting wildlife in Brazil. By engaging the local community and creating a space for education, the exhibition hopes to foster more sustainable interactions between humans and wildlife.
