Exhibition in Belém brings together artists from the North in a show about Amazon culture and memory
An art exhibition showcasing Amazonian culture and memory has opened in Belém, featuring works from artists across Northern Brazil.
On Tuesday, October 10, the Exhibition of the Peoples of the Forest: Contemporary Artistic Occupation Mairi opened in Belém at the Museum of Image and Sound of Pará. This exhibition is part of the Festival of the Peoples of the Forest and features visual and audiovisual art that engages with the culture, memory, and traditional knowledge of the Amazon. Artists from Rondônia, Roraima, Amapá, and Pará are represented in the show, curated by Isabela Bastos and Lucas Baim, with an artistic occupation overseen by Nice Tupinambá.
The exhibition aims to connect various Amazonian territories through narratives that intertwine tradition and contemporary perspectives. The segment in Belém includes selections from previous festival editions held in Porto Velho, Boa Vista, and Macapá, enhanced by local art that elevates the visibility of Paraense artists and promotes cultural exchange among states in the Northern region of Brazil.
By showcasing the works of Northern Brazilian artists, the exhibition seeks to strengthen the cultural recognition of the Amazon and its peoples. It emphasizes the importance of integrating traditional knowledge and contemporary artistic expressions while fostering a deeper understanding of the region's socio-cultural dynamics. This initiative underlines the necessity and relevance of collective memory and cultural practices in an ever-evolving artistic landscape.
