The carnival counting in Nova Friburgo takes place in a new location and without the presence of the public
The samba school results counting for the Nova Friburgo carnival will occur in a new venue without public attendance, adhering to security recommendations.
This year, the results tallying for the samba schools of Nova Friburgo in the Serrana Region of Rio will be held at a new location, the Oficina de Artes, previously the cityβs Forum. This change was made following recommendations from the Military Police and the City Hall, indicating a shift towards enhanced safety and organization. Typically, this event takes place at the Eduardo Guinle Stadium, known for allowing public access, but this year's event will limit attendance to representatives of each school and press professionals only.
The decision to restrict access and relocate the counting event was aimed at ensuring better management and safety, as explained by Peter Filot, the administrative director of the League of Independent Samba Schools. This transition reflects a growing concern for safety amid public gatherings, particularly in light of recent events in Brazil. As such, the event this year will begin at 14h, marking a notable deviation from tradition, where the crowd's energy played a significant role in the experience.
While the removal of public access may be disheartening for fans and local residents accustomed to celebrating together, it reinforces a responsible response to security concerns during public events. This adjustment could set a precedent for future events in the region, balancing festive traditions with necessary safety protocols, a reflection of the current societal emphasis on public safety in Brazil.
