Man crushed by tree in Cantá
A 62-year-old helper named Raimundo Lopes Santos died after being crushed by a tree in Cantá, Northern Roraima, while working on a property.
Raimundo Lopes Santos, a 62-year-old worker, tragically lost his life after a tree fell on him in the municipality of Cantá in Northern Roraima. He was engaged in tree removal work on a property alongside the site's owner, who is 42 years old. As they neared the end of their task, Santos went to organize their tools when he was fatally injured by the falling tree. The property owner reported that after cutting down one last tree, he headed home when he discovered Santos lying on the ground with a tree atop him. Despite his efforts to cut away part of the trunk to rescue Santos, it became apparent that the older man had already succumbed to his injuries. The situation took a toll on the property owner, who then fell ill and required medical attention from his brother at a nearby health post. Santos' body was subsequently taken to the Forensic Medical Institute (IML) for examination. This tragic incident highlights the dangers associated with manual labor, particularly in forestry and agricultural sectors, where accidents can often lead to severe consequences for workers.
