A team of robotics students from Várzea Grande, Brazil, developed a smart brush for archaeologists and won second place at a national robotics competition, qualifying them for a world event in Houston.

The Young Inventors team, composed of six students from the Serviço Social da Indústria (Sesi) in Várzea Grande, Brazil, has made headlines after achieving second place in the Champion's Award at the national robotics competition held during the 8th SESI Education Festival at the Bienal Foundation in São Paulo. Their innovative creation, a smart brush designed to aid archaeologists in the cleaning of historical artifacts, highlighted the students' creativity and technical skills. The announcement of their success coincided with International Women's Day, adding significant recognition to their achievement.

The victory not only marked a personal success for these young inventors but also secured their qualification to represent Brazil at the global stage in Houston, United States, from April 29 to May 2, 2023. This event is recognized as one of the largest robotics competitions in Latin America, with participation from over 2,300 students. The competition serves as a platform for showcasing advancements in technology and innovation among the youth, reflecting the growing importance of STEM education in Brazil and beyond.

Gisele Moraes Reis, a 14-year-old member of the team, expressed her joy over the achievement, noting that it is a testament to the hard work and dedication shown by the group over several months. Last year, the team had a modest finish in their first national competition, making this year's success a significant improvement and highlighting their continuous evolution. The recognition they are receiving may inspire other young students in Brazil to engage more actively in science and technology initiatives, fostering a new generation of innovators.
