Kojamo changes its name

The Finnish housing investment company Kojamo is renaming itself to Lumo Kodeiksi, with the name change taking effect soon.

Kojamo, a Finnish housing investment firm, has announced its decision to change its name to Lumo Kodeiksi, reflecting its established brand significance in the housing market. According to Katri Viippola, the director of People, Brand and Responsibility at the company, the name 'Lumo' is well-known and appreciated, making the renaming a natural step forward. The transition is set to officially occur on Friday, and updates will be reflected on shares and trading platforms by the following Monday.

Kojamo owns approximately 40,000 apartments and has recently made headlines by agreeing to acquire 4,800 apartments from the pension insurance company Varma, with the transaction expected to be completed by early April. This strategic move underlines the company’s commitment to expanding its housing portfolio in the Finnish market, a crucial aspect given the increasing demand for affordable housing solutions in the country. The renaming and acquisition signals Kojamo’s ongoing evolution in the housing sector, which aligns with its founding purpose to support migration to urban areas through accessible housing.

The company's history is rooted in its former name VVO, under which it operated until 2017, and it was initially established with the goal of facilitating affordable housing. Professional unions are still among the stakeholders in the ownership structure, demonstrating a strong connection to the labor movement. Notably, the Industrial Union was reported to be the fourth-largest owner as of late February, holding a 6.4% share in the company. This ownership reflects ongoing ties between housing investment and labor organizations in Finland, emphasizing the role of such entities in the country’s housing landscape.
