A new data center company is coming to Kouvola – Raimo Löytty had to move his company out

A former industrial area in Kouvola is set for a new data center company, prompting local entrepreneurs like Raimo Löytty to relocate their businesses due to the acquisition of the land.

The industrial area of Voikkaa in Kouvola is transitioning ownership as a real estate investment company, Redeve, has signed a preliminary agreement to acquire approximately 21 hectares for 48 million euros. This change poses significant implications for local businesses operating in the area, leading some to seek new locations for their operations. Notably, Raimo Löytty, who has been running his business, Kymen Kivipojat oy, in this area for 20 years, revealed that he had to relocate due to the acquisition of the premises he occupied.

Löytty's new facilities are not far from his original location, allowing for a relatively easy transition for his firm that specializes in producing and maintaining gravestones. This situation highlights the direct impact of real estate developments on local entrepreneurs, who often find themselves needing to adapt quickly to changes that are out of their control. The preliminary agreement signed on February 20th, which included an advance payment of 200,000 euros, has already been reported by Kouvolan Sanomat, signaling the community's interest in the ongoing changes.

As Kouvola prepares for the arrival of the new data center company, there is a broader conversation about the implications of such developments not only for local businesses but for the overall economy of the region. While new investments can breathe life into an area, they also pose challenges for longstanding local enterprises that may not easily adjust to forced relocations. The sentiments expressed by Löytty reflect a common predicament faced by business owners in transition zones, necessitating a careful balance between development and community stability.
