Volvo's plant near Košice has successfully recruited its first 500 employees and is seeking thousands more, focusing on local talent for operator positions.

Volvo Car's recruitment efforts at their new plant in Valaliky near Košice have yielded the employment of the first 500 staff members, primarily focusing on local hires from eastern Slovakia. The plant, which started operations last year, has successfully filled management positions with specialists in IT, engineering, quality control, and logistics, with many new hires coming from the local talent pool. However, for specialized roles demanding advanced technological expertise, the company is also bringing in foreign experts, resulting in a diverse workforce that includes employees from 20 different nationalities.

This year is considered crucial for the recruitment of operators, as Volvo aims to fill thousands of additional positions at the plant. The company is particularly interested in skilled individuals from the eastern region of Slovakia, where they are likely to have the best chances of securing jobs, particularly for Slovak-speaking applicants. Training for these lower-level positions will be conducted exclusively in Slovak, underscoring the company’s commitment to the local workforce and community development while ensuring that language does not become a barrier to employment.

The efforts made by Volvo illustrate the growing automotive sector in Slovakia and its significance as a hub for high-quality manufacturing and technological innovation. As the company expands its operations and workforce, it aims to play a pivotal role in the regional economy, not only by creating jobs but also by enhancing the skills of the local labor market through specialized training and development programs.
