Los Ríos roads flooded by intense rains: Babahoyo-San Juan section temporarily closed
Intense rains have flooded roads in Los Ríos province, leading to the temporary closure of the Babahoyo-San Juan route.
On Thursday morning, severe flooding was reported on sections of highways in Los Ríos province, Ecuador. Specifically, the E25 route, particularly the Babahoyo-San Juan section near La Chorrera, saw water levels rising to approximately 70 centimeters above the roadway, prompting authorities to impose a total closure for all types of vehicles. ECU911, the emergency response team, has mobilized personnel to coordinate the route's closure and direct traffic to alternative pathways.
In addition to the Babahoyo-San Juan section, flooding issues have also been observed on the Flores road between Babahoyo and Montalvo. Local authorities have advised drivers to exercise caution when navigating through these affected areas due to the accumulation of water. This situation has been exacerbated by persistent rain in the region, causing complications for several weeks, particularly on the Jujan-Babahoyo route, which has seen restricted access for light vehicles.
The current flooding and infrastructure challenges not only hinder transportation but also raise concerns about the overall safety and accessibility of the region. As the rainy season continues, local authorities are under pressure to manage these weather-related disruptions effectively, ensuring both public safety and the minimal impact on local trade and transportation networks.
