In Ukmergė - the highest tricolor flag flying in Lithuania!
The mayor of Ukmergė expressed pride in the installation of a new symbolic flagpole in the city's center, which proudly displays Lithuania's national colors.
In a heartfelt ceremony, Darius Varnas, the mayor of Ukmergė, announced the installation of a new flagpole in the heart of the city that will feature Lithuania's historic coat of arms flag. He emphasized the significance of the flag as one of the country's most important symbols, stating that it serves as a reminder of freedom, unity, and love for Lithuania. The timing of the flag’s unveiling, coinciding with March 11, adds to its symbolic weight as this date marks the restoration of Lithuania's independence.
The new flagpole stands taller than those in other major Lithuanian cities, including the 25-meter flagpoles located in Vilnius's Lukiškių Square and Kaunas's Owl Hill. Constructed of stainless steel and designed with a tapered conical shape, the flagpole is not only notable for its height but also features an aviation light atop it, ensuring visibility even at night. The flagpole was anchored into a sturdy concrete base by UAB “Aka Baltic,” showcasing solid engineering to withstand the elements while proudly displaying the national flag.
The flagpole will continuously fly Lithuania's historic flag, while, on special occasions, both the national tricolor and the municipal flag of Ukmergė will also be raised. This initiative highlights local pride and the importance of symbols in fostering community identity and national spirit within Ukmergė and beyond.
