OLP: New cooperation with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines at the Piraeus Car Terminal

The Port of Piraeus Authority announced the arrival of the ship 'Tourmaline Ace' as part of a new partnership with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines to enhance vehicle transportation services.

The Port Authority of Piraeus (OLP SA) has expressed its satisfaction regarding the arrival of the 'Tourmaline Ace' at the Piraeus port, marking a significant collaboration with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, a leading company in global vehicle transportation. The firm operates a fleet of over 95 specialized ships capable of transporting various types of vehicles, including passenger cars and heavy machinery, with each ship accommodating around 5,000 standard-sized vehicles.

On March 10, the ship M/V 'Tourmaline Ace', which is one of the newest vessels in the Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) fleet, made its initial call at the Port of Piraeus, bringing approximately 1,000 vehicles intended for the Greek market. This ship exemplifies the latest generation of Pure Car and Truck Carriers and is noteworthy for its propulsion system that utilizes liquefied natural gas (LNG), significantly contributing to emission reductions with capabilities of achieving 25-30% less emissions compared to traditional vessels.

This partnership not only enhances the logistics and transportation capabilities of the Port of Piraeus but also aligns with global efforts to promote eco-friendly shipping practices. The introduction of advanced LNG technology in shipping showcases MOL's commitment to sustainability and could set a new standard for vehicle carriers operating in European waters, possibly leading to more collaborative ventures in the industry focused on environmental responsibility.
