Entry fee on Ilha do Mel, planned for the first half of 2026, is postponed; access control is maintained

The implementation of an entry fee for tourists visiting Ilha do Mel has been postponed while access controls are set to remain in place.

The implementation of a tourist entry fee for Ilha do Mel, one of the major tourist destinations in Paraná's coastline, has been postponed as per the new measures proposed by the regulatory framework approved in February 2025. Initially set to start in the first half of 2026, the fee of R$ 29.90 for access for up to 10 days is now on hold following public hearings held in March with local residents from Encantadas and Nova Brasília.

During these public meetings, the discussions not only covered the entry fee but also led to the approval of a facial recognition access control system for the island. The Paraná government has indicated that the implementation of any fee will only occur after necessary sanitation infrastructure improvements, which are currently without a specified completion date. The free entry policy will remain in place until these conditions are met.

With new measures in place, Ilha do Mel is expected to accommodate up to 11,000 daily visitors, but the emphasis is on ensuring sustainable visitor management that does not overwhelm the island's natural resources. The delay of the entry fee allows for further discussion and planning, reflecting the government's responsiveness to local community concerns regarding tourism management and environmental preservation.
