Ghana: GIS Rescues 73 Victims - Arrests 93 Nigerians in Anti-Fraud Operation
The Ghana Immigration Service has arrested 93 Nigerian nationals for alleged involvement in internet fraud during an operation in Accra, rescuing 73 victims from abuse.
In a recent intelligence-led operation, the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) successfully apprehended 93 Nigerian nationals suspected of participating in internet fraud and immigration-related offenses. This operation took place in the Devtraco Estate area of Accra and was spearheaded by Deputy Superintendent of Immigration, Newman Akuffo, from GISβs National Operations Directorate. The extensive operation targeted six specific houses where the fraudulent activities were believed to be concentrated.
In addition to the arrests, the GIS operation resulted in the rescue of 73 individuals who had reportedly endured severe abuse and exploitation at the hands of the suspects. These victims were found under alarming conditions, indicating the severity of the situation they faced. The Deputy Commissioner of Immigration, Maud Anima Quainoo, emphasized the importance of such operations in combating organized crime and protecting vulnerable individuals from exploitation.
