Nigerdock, shipping firm seals 45-year Snake Island deal

Nigerdock and Mediterranean Shipping Company have entered into a 45-year agreement to develop a major container terminal in Lagos, Nigeria, set to be completed by 2028.

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has finalized a significant 45-year sub-concession agreement with Nigerdock for the development, operation, and maintenance of an exclusive container terminal at Snake Island Port in Lagos, Nigeria. The new facility will cover 30 hectares and is designed to accommodate a 910-meter quay, six ship-to-shore cranes, two ship berths, and three barge berths, with a draft depth of up to 18 meters. This development is expected to bolster Nigeria's capacity in international shipping and logistics, catering to both local and global demand.

The announcement was made by Nigerdock's Chief Marketing Officer, Kevin Johnson-Azuara, and highlights the strategic importance of establishing a world-class terminal in Nigeria. The Chief Executive Officer of Nigerdock, Maher Jarmakani, expressed excitement about the collaboration with MSC, which is a renowned leader in the global shipping industry. This partnership is symbolic of significant foreign investment aimed at enhancing the nation's maritime sector, fostering growth and modernization in logistics infrastructure.
