The Nigerian Federal Government has signed an agreement to host the fifth Intra-African Trade Fair in Lagos in 2027, aiming to enhance trade and investment across the continent.
The Nigerian Federal Government has officially signed the hosting agreement for the fifth Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF2027), designating Lagos as the official host city. This significant event is aimed at facilitating and boosting trade and investment opportunities across Africa, and it comes in partnership with key organizations including the African Export-Import Bank and the African Union Commission. The agreement was finalized on a Tuesday and includes Nigeria's transition of the hosting responsibility from Algeria, which held the previous edition of the fair that successfully generated nearly $50 billion in trade deals.
Scheduled for November 5 to 11, 2027, IATF2027 is ambitious in its goals, targeting $50 billion in trade and investment agreements, along with expectations for 100,000 visitors and 2,500 exhibitors from over 100 countries. The fair will be framed around the theme "Global Africa Repositioned β From Market Access to Market," indicating a shift in focus towards increasing market accessibility for African products and services. Planned activities will include extensive trade exhibitions and a specific focus on the Free Trade Area initiatives, underscoring the collaborative effort towards economic integration across the continent.
This event is seen as a major opportunity for Nigeria to not only showcase its capabilities as a leader within the African economic space but also to strengthen its trade ties with other African nations. By hosting this continental trade fair, Nigeria positions itself at the forefront of discussions and negotiations that can lead to vast improvements in intra-African trade, fostering both regional cooperation and economic growth amidst the evolving landscape of global trade.
