Quaest: 49% say they do not trust the STF; 43% say they do trust

A recent survey by Quaest reveals a significant portion of Brazilians lack trust in the Supreme Federal Court (STF), with 49% expressing distrust compared to 43% who express trust.

A recent survey conducted by Quaest, released on March 12, shows that nearly half of Brazilians, 49%, do not trust the Supreme Federal Court (STF), with only 43% expressing confidence in the judicial body. The survey also indicates that 8% of respondents were either undecided or did not respond to the question. Beyond trust levels, the poll also highlights concerns regarding the influence of a scandal involving the Banco Master on future elections.

The research, commissioned by Genial Investimentos, surveyed 2,004 individuals aged 16 and above from March 6 to 9. It has a margin of error of plus or minus two percentage points and a confidence level of 95%. Despite the majority expressing a lack of trust, 51% of respondents acknowledged the STF's role in maintaining democracy, suggesting that opinions on the court's effectiveness may vary based on broader political contexts.

The findings raise concerns over the changing levels of public trust in the STF, as those who reported distrust increased from 47% in August 2025 to 49%. Similarly, the percentage of those who trust the STF declined from 50% to 43%. Such shifts might influence voters' perceptions as Brazil approaches future elections, putting additional pressure on the court to restore public confidence and address burgeoning scandals.
