Lufthansa Pilots Begin Two-Day Strike, Affecting Connections with Prague

Lufthansa pilots initiated a two-day strike for better pay and pensions, leading to flight cancellations between Prague, Munich, and Frankfurt.

Lufthansa pilots began a two-day strike at midnight on Thursday, aiming to improve their wages and pensions. This strike led to numerous flight cancellations, particularly affecting routes connecting Prague with Munich and Frankfurt. Although the strike is expected to impact many flights, Lufthansa has stated that they will still operate at least half of their scheduled flights, including up to 60 percent of long-haul services.

The strike, which is part of ongoing labor disputes, follows a previous 24-hour walkout on February 12, during which 800 flights were canceled. The current situation at major airports in Frankfurt and Munich is under scrutiny as travelers face significant disruptions. In Prague, Václav Havel Airport reported the cancellation of six flights to Munich and Frankfurt on Thursday, with additional cancellations already noted for Friday.

As the effects of the strike unfold, airlines are attempting to reassure passengers by managing flight schedules while also continuing to offer services, especially to destinations in the Middle East amid ongoing regional conflicts. The strike reflects broader tensions in the airline industry regarding employee compensation and working conditions as post-pandemic recovery continues to evolve.
