Kersti Miilen received the Leida Laius Award at the Naiste Ööde Film Festival for her contributions to Estonian cinema.
At this year's Naiste Ööde Film Festival, the Leida Laius Award was presented to renowned editor Kersti Miilen during the opening ceremony held on March 6th in Rapla. Miilen is honored for infusing Estonian films with soul, depth, and rhythm, marking her significant impact on the industry. Her extensive body of work includes notable features such as "Naerata ometi", "Nipernaadi", and documentary films including "Härra Vene maailm" and "Vaikelu naisega".
With a career spanning over fifty years, Miilen has edited nearly 170 films, starting with Leida Laius' "Kõrboja peremees" in the late 1970s. The Leida Laius Award, named in honor of the pioneering filmmaker, recognizes female filmmakers who have made substantial contributions to the advancement of Estonian cinema, emphasizing the importance of female representation in the industry.
This award, given for the seventh time, not only celebrates Miilen's achievements but also highlights the essential role women play in the film industry. As the festival continues to be a platform for recognizing talent, the award contributes to the effort of promoting women's creativity and influence in Estonian arts and culture.
