In Monte Alegre, located in western Pará, residents of the Curitanfã neighborhood are facing a growing danger as a large crater, approximately 20 meters deep, continues to expand close to their homes. This alarming geological formation emerged following a period of heavy rains, which have exacerbated the situation by increasing the threat of further land erosion and destabilization.

The crumbling earth, coupled with the region's winter rains known as the Amazônia's wet season, has left local inhabitants living in fear of potential land slides and the safety of their residences. Community members have reported that the conditions have worsened over recent days. The crater poses not only a physical threat to homes but also disrupts essential public services like street lighting and water supply, intensifying the crisis.

Local resident Claudionor Gomes expressed the community's distress, noting that many families, including children, are at risk due to the precarious state of the land. He emphasized the urgent need for action to address the increasingly dangerous situation. The involvement of civil defense agencies will likely be crucial in managing the risks posed by the expanding crater and ensuring the safety of the affected neighborhoods.
