Crater opened after bridge was taken by rain threatens house in Monte Mor
A home in Monte Mor, Brazil, is at risk due to erosion caused by rain after a bridge was washed away, raising concerns among residents about the lack of infrastructure and government response.
In Monte Mor, São Paulo, incessant rainfall has exacerbated problems for residents in the Recanto das Orquídeas neighborhood. Following the collapse of a bridge about a month ago, a nearby house is now threatened by erosion from the ground where the bridge once stood. Local resident Walter Mariano expressed frustration, having reported the issue to city officials without any subsequent action taken to address the danger.
Mariano lamented that the problems in the area are long-standing, despite the collection of taxes that residents believe should have funded better infrastructure. His statement highlights a broader discontent among locals who feel ignored by municipal authorities as they face increasing risks to their homes. The fallen bridge cut off essential access to the Meu Cantinho neighborhood, compounding the difficulties that residents already face due to poor road conditions and infrastructure deficiencies.
In response to the situation, the Planning and Works Secretariat of Monte Mor stated that the heavy rains have indeed led to soil erosion at the site of the bridge collapse. However, the lack of clear action plans or remedial measures from the local government has left residents like Mariano anxious about their safety and the structural integrity of their homes, pointing to a critical need for improved urban planning and emergency response mechanisms in vulnerable areas like Monte Mor.
